As the upcoming holiday season approaches, Hotels.com has unveiled local travel trends and insights based on the Hotels.com Hotels Price Index (HPI®) report, which details on hotel prices paid in major destinations around the world. The findings are based on Hotels.com bookings, and prices that are paid by customers on per room/per night basis.
Not surprisingly, Kuala Lumpur is ranked No.1 as the most popular destination by inbound travellers globally. Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Malacca are also popular local destinations. In Malaysia, travellers were paying an average of RM306 per night for hotels, and travellers from Switzerland were spending the most (RM425) on average hotel prices paid in Malaysia.
Even though the softening of the Ringgit has affected the lifestyles of Malaysians, it doesn’t necessarily equate to a higher cost of travel. The HPI findings revealed that there has been a steady drop in hotel prices paid by Malaysians in the UAE (-36%), France (-21%), Macau (-12%), as well as Malaysians’ favourites – Bangkok (-7%), Indonesia (-12%), Singapore (-18%), and Hong Kong (-4%).
