Konnichiwa! In Malaysia, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to anything that has to do with food. There is so much to choose from, we’ve got Chinese, Indian, Malay, Italian, French and the list goes on. While we Malaysians appreciate just about every cuisine available, one of our favourites have got to be Japanese food.

While our knowledge of Japanese cuisine probably doesn’t go past sushi, sashimi and unagi, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the delicious food while eating them! So, if you’re unsure of where to go for the best Japanese food in town, worry not because we have picked out 7 of the best places for you to satisfy your sushi needs.

Kampachi, The Troika
At Kampachi’s flagship outlet located in the The Troika building, you’ll be just as mesmerised by the decor as you would with the food. This Japanese restaurant is an absolute stunner with its super grandiose setting, I mean this is the place where business deals are made and where people get proposed to. Besides its delicious food and dazzling setting, Kampachi also boast three Best Japanese awards from Time Out KL Food Award.

At Sushi Hinata, all produce if fresh and flown all the way in from Tsukiji Market and Fukuoka Market, so expect nothing but the most fresh dishes. You’ll find that the menu at Sushi Hinata is pretty limited but this is proof that Chef Hideaki Oritsuki is that good! The menu may be simple but the dishes served are so premium that you’ll find it’s worth paying the money for.

Fukuya
With its tranquil and lush green setting, Fukuya gives you an out-of-KL dining vibe. This fine dining restaurant mimics the look of an old Japanese home style and here is where you can get some of the best and most fresh sashimi cuts, sushi and of course, grilled seafood.

Rakuzen
Another one on the list with a tranquil ambience, Rakuzen sports a very a relaxed dining vibe thanks to its bamboo setting. Slightly kinder to the wallets, Rakuzen still serves up some of the specialty dishes like the dragon rolls. There are plenty of choices available from Rakuzen’s extensive menu.

At Ten, patrons will experience only the best gastronomic experience but be sure to have more than RM100 per person just to be safe and to truly experience Japanese cuisine.

Located off Jalan Kelang Lama, Ishin delivers outstanding and authentic Japanese food. Fresh ingredients are specially flown in from the famous Tsujiki Market in Japan. If you’re looking to throw a party or function, there are private rooms available. Famous among Malaysians who love Japanese cuisine, this place is often crowded so be sure to make reservations.
