While #FreeTheNipple may not be happening on Instagram, company co-founder Kevin Systrom revealed to a panel at Vanity Fair‘s New Establishment Summit that Instagram could release an R-rated version where nudity will be allowed.
When a panellist Katie Couric questioned if the social media company has ever considered creating an R-rated version, Systrom said “There have been discussions.” However he went on saying who decides what’s R-rated can be slippery slope.
A hot topic in the past weeks has to be female activists highlighting that there’s no equality when it comes to what men and women can post on the social platform. Men often post half-naked and it’s fine but a women’s post will be quickly removed or censored. Systrom pointed out that “nudity isn’t banned on Instagram” however there are policies whereby Instagram cannot #FreeTheNipple.
Will you use the R-rated version of the social media platform?
