Ladies, mostly in their 20s, are gaining attention for their new ‘health’ trend. This group of roughly 10 women gather everyday on Sam Ka Village beach in Hong Kong to stare at the sun.

They gear themselves with face-protection gear to stare at the sun for 10 seconds at a time if you’re a beginner and eventually by the end of nine months, you’ll be able to work up to 44 minutes at a time. One of the participant told The Oriental Daily that once they’re done with this ‘therapy’, they eat less and some don’t eat at all. Others even said it improves their vision and sleep quality.

But the big question is, is this doing any good to them? The main concern is the UV rays that can cause permanent damage and even if these women bathed in sunscreen, they can only withstand five to six percent of the damage which will increase the risk of skin cancer, conjunctival disease, cataracts and muscular degeneration.

Although you may be hearing it for the first time, sun gazing was a method practiced in the early 20th century. It has been noted that this alternative therapy has had disastrous outcomes. However, this is the first time it has been linked to weight loss.

What’s your take on it?
