Instagram is finally taking a huge step into dealing with the complex ethics of online commenting and trolls by giving users the ability to make a choice about what’s acceptable and what isn’t for themselves.
Soon, users will be able to take control of their own comment streams by deleting them off if need be, or turning off comments altogether on their own posts. You can then weed out all comments you personally find offensive!
“Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self expression,” said Instagram’s head of public policy, Nicky Jackson Colaco.
“We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience. As we learn, we look forward to improving the comment experience for our broader community.”
Instagram is now testing out the feature ahead of its release. High-profile accounts will be first to get the feature.
