We often commit ourselves to busy schedules that leave us exhausted. Sometimes, just a sandwich or a bento box isn’t enough to keep you awake or energized to continue working throughout the day. Incorporating hi-energy foods can make the work day slightly more bearable with a new stream of nutrients! Here are a few simple tips and tricks will have you kickstarting a perfect working day!
Pumpkin seeds
Pumpkin seeds contain muscle-sustaining protein and healthy fats. They also have a lot of magnesium which helps convert food to energy so they are a great easy and simple option to snack on in the office.
Berries
Berries contain anthocyanins which is where they get their blue/ red/ purple colours from. Anthocyanin is also an antioxidant (which is always great for your skin) and boosts energy. Try some frozen berries if you are bored or want a healthy ice lolly alternative!
Carbohydrates and Protein
Carbohydrates that have a high glycemic index means the sugar is more easily digested by your body. This means the sugar will hit you faster and you will therefore need less. Combination of carbs and proteins is also good for you. In spite of the Atkins diet, combining the two can be beneficial in ways we wouldn’t know. The mix of protein and complex carbohydrates give your body a quick energy boost. Some examples of good carbohydrates include whole grain crackers, whole grain toast or a controlled serving of gluten-free pasta.
Soluble Fibre
Slows down the rate at which your body absorbs sugars. Some good high spluble fiber foods include nuts, fruits, vegetables, beans, oats and grains.
Vitamin C
Studies show links between citric acid and chronic fatigue. Citrus smells (orange, lemon, lime) have also been shown to stimulate awareness.
Yogurt
We already know what a great low fat snack natural yogurt is but it also keeps your digestive system clean, helping your body absorb a maximum amount of nutrients from food. Ultimately, getting the most out of what you are consuming.
Ginseng
Being an adaptogen, ginseng builds resistance to stress and boosts energy. You can find ginseng teas and sip on it throughout the day.
Eggs
Eggs are a great source of protein. Choosing proteins over carbs when you want one or the other is definitely the way to go as you will feel more energy and eat less the next meal, keeping your weight and energy in check! Eggs are a great way to start the day.
