There is nothing worse than having a bikini-ready body and not being able to flaunt it at the most crucial time of year because there is something else holding you back! If that something else happens to be flying, it’s your time to get over it with these four explainations which should help you rationalise your fear. These apply for not only flying but all phobias too
Step 1: Repression
A lot of phobias stem from the act of repression. Repression is the unconscious exclusion of traumatic events from your conscious mind. This results in a bad experience turning into an irrational, uncontrolable fear as you cannot make sense of where it has stemmed from. Once you come to the realisation that there is a deeper seeded issue, you may proceed to explore what it could be and therefore further understand your phobia. Naturally, this should give you a more rational outlook on your fear or at least mean you can begin to tackle it.
Step 2: Don’t Block Positivity
Once you have found the catalyst of your problem, you should be able to stop the catastrophization which takes hold once your fear is induced. Catastrophizing is what makes you envision the worst in a situation, moreover irrationalising a thought as you cannot see past what you are feeling. It defines the presence or absence of other possibilities, making you feel as if it is impossible to overcome when really there are a lot more positive outcomes than negative typically.

Step 3: Indulge in Relaxing Activities
Resignation should be counteracted once you accomplish and recognise the acts of repression and catastrophization for yourself as it is the act of feeling completely out of control and in panic resulting in giving up and never breaking through. Taking full control of the emotions at hand will always be the hardest step but there are methods and techniques that may help with this part. These could involve taking deep breaths and getting your pulse into check and stretching your muscles to feel them relax. Some more alternative methods can include carrying something which manifests positive thoughts in your head to calm and relax you then ultimately counteract the insecurity. Fragrances usually work well for this, for example if there is a certain scent that makes you feel secure (your mother could of used it etc.) smell it when you are feeling angst and it should put your head in a better place.
Step 4: Rationalise Your Fear
At the end the most important part is to know and understand one of our favorite quotes “the human mind can overcome anything as long as it sees the end in sight.” This means that if you believe in your head that a feeling won’t last forever, you are already half there because you are rationalising it. This is having a positive mental attitude which is important throughout healing a phobia especially. Remember to reward and congratulate yourself for overcoming a personal barrier and making a breakthrough. This will once again work with associating the fear with positive things and will also stop you from dwelling.
Now you are ready to jetset your way through the holidays fear free, happy flying!
