Damaged hair is a nightmare. It makes styling an odyssey and caring for your hair can cost you a bomb too. But does that every stop us from using the flat iron or blow-drying our hair for 30 minutes for the perfect bounce? Pretty sure it’s a no! Fortunately, there are ways to maintain and care, but it’ll take some time, sacrifice and consistency. A little investment is necessary, but trust us  – it’ll all be worth it!

Keratin Treatments
You don’t have to go as far as to paying for a RM600 “Brazilian-blowout” aka the Brazilian keratin treatment just to have smooth hair. The Brazilian keratin treatment may give you frizz-free hair, but the treatment itself is full of chemicals, and that’s the last thing you want to give you hair after all that intensity from heat damage. The hair requires keratin to be strong, shiny and healthy so look for natural keratin-rich foods such as eggs, avocado and soy products. Treat your hair to an egg mask every week with a little bit of honey as it’ll fill up the tiny cracks in your hair.

Grape Seed Extract or Oil
Grape seed extract is great to stimulate hair growth. The antioxidant properties of grape seed extract helps your body produce collagen and keratin which is essential for your hair. You can choose to consume it orally or massage it into your scalp once every few weeks.

A Protein-Rich Diet
A healthy diet is what you need to help your hair grow healthy. Healthy hair also starts with a healthy scalp so drink plenty of water daily so that your scalp stays moisturized. So eat a diet rich with meats, dairy, kale and nuts to give yourself healthy hair and scalp.

Saying ‘No’ To Hair Rituals
Major damage is caused by heat and chemical treatments, and even exposure to sun. Going out in the sun for a little too long can cause your hair to break and cause split-ends. So protect you hair by saying no to your flat iron and curling tongs once in a while and style your hair with heat-free options like velcro rollers! And if you’re planning to dye your hair, give it a miss. And if you must, opt for a root touch-up and avoid the ends.

Get a Trim
The hair-trimming myth that nobody wants to hear. The truth is that cutting your hair really won’t make your hair grow longer. The logic behind cutting your hair is to remove dry ends and the split-ends that delay or even stop the growth of your hair.

Deep-Condition Before Your Apply Heat
Every time you’re about to style your hair with heat, make sure you use a deep conditioning treatment before and after you style your hair. Protein and keratin treatments are the best for dry and weak hair so make it a point to spend an extra 10 minutes in the shower.
