You Snooze, You Lose… CALORIES! (True Story!)

We all want a healthy, fit and sexy body. However, keeping in shape while avoiding the temptations of food can be tough. Many of us struggle in the gym daily to shed the extra pounds and limit our food intake just to ensure our waistlines don’t cheat on us and expand horizontally.

If I’ve somewhat described you above, then this article will instantly put a smile on your face. It may sound senseless, but if you do it right, you can be burning calories in your SLEEP, babay!

How? No, we’re not going to ask you to do workouts on your bed or anything like that. Just sleep as usual, but your sleep has to be of quality – without disruptions.

Simple, right? Let’s dive deeper to learn how you can burn those extra pounds with a perfect snooze.

1. Ditch the blanket

Who doesn’t like the cosy feeling of a nice, warm and heavy blanket in a cool room? We all do, but sleeping without trapping much heat can help you lose more calories. How so? When you sleep in a cooler temperature, your body’s metabolism increases and you burn calories while sleeping. How cool, right?

2. Get good sleep

Getting enough sleep is also known to help you lose weight. Studies suggest that getting an extra hour of sleep can reduce your daily caloric consumption by about 270 calories, and it can lead to a 9-pound weight loss over a year. The extra hour of sleep is definitely worth it!

3. Don’t go on hunger strike!

Going to bed hungry or on an empty stomach can cause a sleepless night which leads to weight gain if prolonged. If you feel hungry just before hitting the bed, munch on some healthy snack or better still, whip up a good protein shake. Because protein is more thermogenic than carbs or fat, it causes your body to burn more calories while digesting it.

4. Don’t skip meals, especially dinner

If you’re cutting down on the calories for weight loss, do not skip dinner or, again, go to bed hungry, because it could go the other way round. When you drastically drop your calorie intake, your body goes into starvation mode, which lowers your metabolism rate to conserve calories. So skipping meals might not be advisable, especially at night. Opt for a light snack that will help to keep you full. Do not binge on processed, oily or unhealthy snacks – especially before sleeping. Have a small portion of a healthy and nutritious snack for a blissful sleep for both your tummy and you.
