You Might Not Want To Throw Silica Gels Anymore After Reading This!

You might be familiar with the tiny round transparent balls called, Silica Gel, which usually comes with your new pairs of shoes, bags, electronic items and some food packaging. You might too quick to judge the importance and uses of those tiny bags, and dispose them right away. However, did you know that silica gels have many uses that many are unaware of? If you have a whole lot of them in your house, you do not want to throw them ever again because they can be of great use to other items.

There’s so much you can do with silica gels. Read on to know the different uses of these gels!

Absorb moisture

The main purpose of silica gels is to absorb water prevent moisture. You can often these gel packets in your shoe boxes and electrical device packaging. They’re placed there to help absorb any moisture from the surroundings. The balls absorb water vapour and retain it as well. That way, the products in the boxes or packaging are not damaged in any way by water.

Uses of silica gels:

Hardcopy photos

If you have a stack of boxes containing photos and other important documents, use the silica gel and place a few inside each box. The gels will absorb any moisture while preventing any molds from surfacing. This way, they’ll retain their colour for a longer period of time.

Camera

Camera lens can get fogged up due to humidity and moisture from the surroundings. To prevent the water from leaking into your camera, you can place a bag of silica gel in the bag you keep your camera in. Do the same if water gets on your camera. These gels will work wonders to drain out water!

Clothes

Clothes kept in a suitcase or box can often become damp, which leaves behind an unpleasant smell on your clothes. Avoid mold and damp clothes by placing a few packets of the gel in the suitcase and you’ll not have to worry about smelly damp clothes! You can do the same for clothes in your cupboard. It will leave your clothes smelling fresh longer.

Phone

Whoops! Dropped your phone in water? To get a quick fix out of the wet situation, you’ll most likely submerge your phone in rice and wait several hours before it’ll be dry. Amazingly, these little gels are far more effective in absorbing water compared to rice. All you’ll need to do is Fill a bowl with the balls, place your phone into the bowl and leave it there for 24 hours.
