Charles & Keith have collaborated with Coco Capitán – a Spanish-born artist renowned for her poetic musings and artwork – for their latest collection. The artist, whose pieces have appeared in galleries and museums around the globe, has teamed up with the company to explore the complex feelings that prose can arouse in clothing, celebrate individuality, and create wearable pieces that incorporate her artwork.
The collection combines the sensibilities and understated elegance of Charles & Keith’s design aesthetic with androgynous and structured silhouettes that act as canvases for her artwork. The collection has also been given a personalised touch by Capitán, who took over the brand’s sans-serif logo with her own signature script.
“My art is inspired by overheard conversations, diary entries, and sudden waves of introspection. I believe that words can transcend cultures and give us a glimmer of hope for brighter times,” said Capitán.
Inspired by the innocent, child-like nature of the game “He loves me, he loves me not,” sprays of blue daisies are stitched on the brand’s iconic Perline Penny Loafers, alongside Capitán’s handwritten prose, “Loves Me Blue, Love Me Blue Not.” The Double Handle Sculptural Tote Bag also features embroidery in her distinctive script that tells the uplifting story of a lone blue flower growing through concrete. Every bag and pair of shoes in the collection has purposeful, uneven stitching that gives them the intimacy and spontaneity of a personalised item. The all-black capsule was created as a discussion starter that invites everyone to consider the understated genius of Capitán’s words.
