Christmas 2011: What we did, a week before Christmas

If you were out with us every step of the way yesterday, you’d know that you just had a fun-filled Saturday jam-packed with lots of activities to do and of course, people to see.

Our Saturday kicked off with “Markets @ Jaya One”, a true calling to shopaholics, fashionistas, and flea market lovers. Just because it’s Christmas (we are only one week away!), there was every excuse to shop. And you know flea markets – everything from clothes to shoes, to accessories and even books, are all out there at unbeatable bargain prices.

But the wonderful vendors and lovely blogshop owners all came out with a different mission yesterday, which is to reward shoppers (like us) with not only carefully selected goods but also Christmas discounts! You could say it was hard to resist going home with an extra bag, three pairs of shoes, and a handful of accessories.

Even the slight drizzle didn’t stop us – or anyone, for that matter!

During a “shopping break”, we were also entertained by carolers who sang favourite Christmas tune after favourite Christmas tune. It put a smile on people’s faces and really, who said that just because it doesn’t snow where we are, we can’t be kept warm and fuzzy inside during this festive season?

After which, we headed over to “The Big Fest: Raise Your Voice” to support a 10-hour arts and crafts event (and a get together with our friends from the local music industry”) with a cause.

Held at Ecoba Restaurant & Bar at PJ Trade Centre, for the first time ever, party goers, music lovers, and performers (live acts and DJs alike) took a few steps forward in a collaborative effort to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.

It was an interesting to see how many youths were there not because it was “just another music event” and they want to see or be seen – but because they strongly believed in making a change.

So much so that when free condoms were given out throughout the entire night, people weren’t shy about making a grab for them.

Yes, women and men alike!

The place was also sprawling with food and drinks that kept going until late into the night. And who can forget the “Goldilocks Bazaar” who kept us shopping? Not much different from the one earlier in the day, the flea market featured clothes (new, pre-loved, and vintage), funky hipster accessories, shoes, bags, and even food.

What better way to spend a Saturday than one such as yesterday? Day out with friends, check. Bargain shopping, check. Good food, check. Great music, check. Awesome events, double check!
