Being stuck at home with nowhere to go, shedding our mane at the parlours are our biggest dream now! When it comes to hair removal especially to sharpen your brows, there is often a sensible discussion, deciding over threading or waxing is the ideal way to go.

There’s a very clear answer, as it turns out.  If you’ve ever wondered why waxing became prevalent lately and why people seem to relinquish threading? Here are among the reasons why waxing happens to be a popular hair removal choice for women.

Both methods play the same role in removing hair from deep within the roots of the skin, but waxing uses wax and threading uses thread.

When it comes to waxing, there are two types to it, which is soft and hard wax. Soft wax comes in a gooey form, almost in slime-like texture. You apply it to the desired area and use a piece of cloth if not a wax strip to wax the hairs.

The second type is hardwax, which comes in a thicker form compared to soft wax. You do not require any cloth or waxing strip to perform waxing using hard wax. The hardwax is applied to the desired area and the wax is stripped of the skin from the opposite direction of the hair growth, pulling out all the hair.

Wax is commonly made of sugar if not wax bubbles. They are melted in a heating pot to the preferred consistency and used accordingly. The wax strips are applied to the skin using a spatula or wooden stick to avoid the heat from transferring on the handle.

Waxing is the common hair removal method used across the globe for easy and quick hair removal, covering a large area per usage.

Here’s how to make sugar wax at home:

Ingredients-

  1. 1 cup brown sugar
  2. 2 tablespoons water
  3. 1 lemon, juiced

To make the wax, put all the ingredients in a pan and stir the mixture well under a low flame stove until it becomes gooey and sticky. Leave it to cool down before waxing.

Waxing Method-

  1. Always start with clean skin, so wash the area desired.
  2. Pat dry and apply talc on the area.
  3. Prepare wax strips or a clean piece of cloth, preferably cotton to wax the hair easily.
  4. Voila, just apply the melted wax to your desired area and wax the em’ clean!

Threading is done by using cotton threads. The skin has to be pulled tightly to ease the motion of threading. Be cautious, if the skin is not pulled hard, it can cause the thread to cut the skin. The threading method was first introduced by India and later became a common hair removal method across all continents.

Due to the pores opening when skin is being stretched out during threading, certain individuals could get an allergic reaction from the thread. It can cause mild to severe rashes or reddening at the threaded area.

However, waxing has proved to cause lesser allergic reactions and the hair that regrows after is proven to be much softer and fine, but allergic reactions depend on the individual’s skin type. At times, people do get allergic reactions from waxing as well. Remember to be very gentle to your skin, apply aloe vera or ice cubes to the threaded or waxed area immediately, prior to doing it to avoid immediate inflammation.

Trading takes a shorter time for the hair to regrow, roughly up to 2 weeks and you would have to thread again, but for waxing it can last you up for a month. In case of emergency, and you have coarse hair that needs to get removed for a photoshoot or event, opt for treading, being a quick method for hair removal.

How To Thread:

  1. You will need cotton thread and aloe vera gel.
  2. Wash your desired area and start on clean skin by stretching it.

Threading can be a tidbit tedious, so watch a clear video or click HERE for a full tutorial on how to thread brows at home!

There’s no definite choice between waxing or threading because they will work best for you depending on your lifestyle or skincare preferences and needs. Threading is definitely a quicker process, but it takes some precision, skill and practice to do well. Waxing will remove more hair at a time, making it easier for larger areas. You may also find waxing easier to practice than threading.

Both are great choices to choose from or you can use both techniques depending on the parts of your body. Since we are all stuck at home now, let’s get experimenting to get those unwanted hairs off!

Happy experimenting!
