Urbanscapes 2014 was a blast! Besides great music and art, there was also zorbing. Sponsored by Tiger Beer, the zorb ball got the party rolling for urbanites as they uncaged themselves from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Thrill seekers queued up to ride in the zorb ball, while some others stayed connected on social networks at the designated Wi-Fi zone at the Tiger Translate areas over a couple of cold brew. Some were also seen equipping themselves with a Translate Kit containing festival must-haves like a picnic mat, glow sticks, straw hat, hand towel and canvas bag.
Along with its partnership with Tiger Beer, Urbanscapes returned on December 6 at the Horse Ranch in Resorts World Genting, a very unique venue for the first time ever. The cool and breezy environment surely did keep the urbanites more comfortable throughout the festival day and made Urbanscapes a much more enjoyable event.
The crowd went crazy when Local Natives, an indie rock band from Los Angeles, graced the stage and performed some hit favourites such as “Breakers” and “Heavy Feet”. Fans of ’90s college-rock also caught The Lemonheads, who made their first appearance in Malaysia.
Grammy Award-winning songstress Kimbra, who soared with her collaboration with Gotye on “Somebody That I Used to Know”, also added to the amazing lineup, alongside Australian duo Jagwar Ma, that drove the crowd with their blend of guitar-infused psychedelic dance music. 11 of Malaysia’s and the regions’ best-loved local bands like Jumero, OJ Law and Paperplane Pursuit rounded up the lineup.
Before the main event, three satellite shows took place at KL Live. The first show kicked off with Scottish synthpop band Chvrches, followed by their Caledonian counterparts, Mogwai. The Urbanscapes satellite show concluded on a high note in December 1, when American comedy rock duo Tenacious D took to the stage with their undisputable high-energy performance.
