Trim Your Split-Ends with the ‘Dusting’ Technique

There’s no running away from pesky split-ends but did you know that you can easily get rid of them without heading to your hairdresser? A lot of women choose not to trim their hair to let their hair grow, so many of us feel that a trip to the salon isn’t worth it.

Trimming your split-ends isn’t even hard to begin with, and all it takes is a few minutes of your time. Even Blake Lively trims her own split ends! There’s no real way of doing without shortening length of your hair, but you can do it so that the length still remains somewhat the same.

‘Dusting’ is one of the best techniques to trimming split-ends effectively without tremendously affecting the length of your mane. It gives you a better view of your split ends so you can trim them, and let your hair grow healthier.

Before you get started, buy a good pair of hair shears from your nearest beauty supply store. Unlike regular scissors, hair shears won’t gnaw through your hair and cause more split-ends.

Here’s how you do it:

1. Grab a small section of your hair, and twist it. The ends of the hair will pop out the twist, so when you find the split ends, just trim the stray hairs off.

2. To snip off bigger amounts of split-ends in one go, spread a section of hair, and snug it in between your index and middle finger. Slide the ends of your hair over your finger and start trimming off the split ends.

3. If you feel like you may have missed some parts, twist the ends in the opposite direction, and trim the split-ends you spotted.

You can do make this session a semi-spa treatment by applying your favorite conditioning treatment on the ends of your hair to make visibility of your split-ends better.

The dusting technique can take you up to an hour to trim your split-ends, and it can’t guarantee effective elimination and prevention of split-ends.

This technique works best as a quick-fix when you don’t have time for proper treatment with your hairdresser.  You should get your hair professionally trimmed every five weeks; so use the dusting method every two weeks to let you hair grow easier!
