It’s all about personality when it comes to dating, right? Well, it’s not really the case for dating app for iPhone, Tinder.
It’s innocent tagline, “Discover those around you”, is really just another version of Hot or Not, a once popular photo rating site. This app lets you have a look at the person nearby, and if you’re interested you can probably set up a date.
Tinder gives regular, everyday people the chance to do the things we love to do online but won’t admit because of its shallow nature – judging someone based on their looks and then obsess over what people think about us and boost our egos.
Unfortunately for humanity, this is really one of the biggest problems a lot of face. Tinder was first launched at a University of Southern California party and soon expanded to other college campuses from there. Simply sign in through Facebook, and soon you can “like” or say “nope” to potential matches based on tiny photographs and some very brief details about mutual interests and friends.
The plus side for women is that this app only allows people to message each other once they’ve both “liked” each other. Women are the sad lot in online dating, receiving horrendous amounts of creepy messages.
Despite its shallow flaws, Tinder is fast becoming one of the most active dating app on iPhone. Co-founder, Justin Mateen said the iPhone app is currently being downloaded 10,000 to 20,000 times a day, with sixty percet of users checking it daily, and consulting the app up to five to six times a day.
