IKEA Living & Dining 03

Everyone’s favourite home furnishing store has a new look and if you think it doesn’t get more Swedish than IKEA, you might just be a tad wrong.

IKEA might be synonymous with all things Swedish, from its design principle to its selection of Scandinavian food in the cafeteria but the recent facelift sees an introduction of local twists, making it more relevant to the Malaysian lifestyle.

After conducting a study that was aptly called the Life@Home survey, Ikea took vital data from the findings to learn more about the living situations of Malaysians.

Most families cited that space is an issue. Eight out of ten home owners surveyed live with two or more generations of family members under the same roof. More than half of the participants said they would feel more satisfied if they had a larger living room, kitchen and dining room.

Hence, IKEA refurbished over 50 roomsets and homes with ideas and solutions that maximise the use of space, especially in smaller homes. Acknowledging the fact that more than half its market population are families living with children, IKEA also took measures to offer home furnishing solutions to accommodate this trend. Also, IKEA has taken into consideration that Malaysian utilise both dry and wet kitchens.

When it comes to renovation and redesigning, seven out of ten Malaysians expressed a desire to do so but approximately 78% cited financial constraints as a hindrance, 49% cited busy schedules and 25% cited lack of motivation, ideas or inspirations. When it comes to design, 83% stated that functionality took precedence over trends.

IKEA offers a broad array of services to help Malaysians address their home renovation and refurbishing challenges such as:

  • IKEA Planning Tools, a free online program that allows home owners to become their own designers by providing them the capability to rearrange and try different styles, as well as planning their budget.
  • IKEA Home Delivery and Assembly Services, which offer home owners assistance in transporting and assembling their purchased furniture at a small fee.
  • 0% Interest Instalment Payment Plan, providing credit card holders flexible payment options to make it easier and more affordable to achieve a dream home from as low as RM500.
  • Sewing services allow customers to choose from a wide range of fabrics at the IKEA Textile department that turn them into any style or design they want.
  • The NEW Kitchen office –customers can make appointments for their kitchen installations and to arrange for site measurements here.
