It’s a commonly known fact that we’re constantly texting but what we don’t know is that our cell phone habits are actually hurting our necks, according to a spinal surgeon.
Results from a new study by spinal surgeon Dr. Kennet Hansraj was published in Surgical Technology International shows that looking down at your phone can put a whopping 30kgs of pressure on your spine. This is of course depending on the angle.
The study also revealed that the average person spends two to four hours a day with their head tilted down looking at their phones and reading. Added on through time, this will add excess stress on the cervical spine and increase your chances of spinal wear and tear.
It’s “nearly impossible to avoid the technologies that cause these issues,” said Dr. Hansraj in the report. But of course, this can be avoided provided that people that the proper steps by looking at their mobile phones while maintaining the right posture, which is having your ears aligned with your shoulders.
