What would you do if you noticed someone was following you?
In this day and age, the safety of women is easily compromised and has become balanced on this thin line. There have been countless cases of snatch theives, murders, and rapes… and women are usually the targets. Sometimes, these situations are just about being at the wrong place at the wrong – but none the less, some cases really are unavoidable. No one can be trust, and no one should be trust.
If you’re walking alone somewhere and you get yourself into this kind of ‘stalking’ situation, then there are few things you should do on your part to try to avoid any problems. After all, you’re safety is gold and you should always be away of that. We can’t always have a Prince Charming by our side to save us during all situations, can we? So do it yourself. Your full safety is in your own hands.
Here are a few tips to consider when you feel like someone is following you:
1. Look around & get familiar
If you’re in a usual place that you know, then good. Be sure you know where you’re going and don’t aimlessly walk around just to avoid the person – know your direction. If you’re in a place you don’t really know, just head over to the busiest area.
2. Look for people
See a crowd? Stick to them. Being surrounded by people is the best thing you can do in a situation like this. Even if these people are in the opposite direction of where you’re going – then good. Make it known that you are near people.
3. Go through different routes
Just to be sure that the person is actually targeting you – then take different routes. Randomly turn into different areas and even U-turn and just circle around until you are sure that the person is following you – then continue with the next steps.
4. Stay alert
Know where the person is (or if there are more than one, then know where they are standing). Check out his/their movements and how they are maneuvering around you.
5. Don’t panic
The worst thing you could do at a moment like this is to panic – it’s unavoidable though, but try your best to stay calm. Looking paniked may cause them to move on to you faster. So play it cool and collected.
6. Tell someone
We’re pretty sure your phone is in your hand at some point – so tell someone. Tell the first person on your text list exactly what is going on. If you are starting to get even more worried, then call a friend/boyfriend/family member and tell them what is going on. Being on the phone may throw them off – but still stay alert during a time like this.
7. Avoid your original destination
The worst thing you could possibly do is to keep going to your original destination – avoid it at all causes because if the person follows you there, they might continue to wait for you there. So avoid it. Pretend you’re going elsewhere if possible.
