Enter the galactic world of Star Wars with the collaboration of The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia and Royal Selangor as characters from the worldwide culture phenomenon are immortalised in pewter. Star Wars has had a huge cultural impact on at least two generations and as a result, Royal Selangor’s long heritage of design and craftsmanship has transformed pewter into collectibles worthy of any die-hard Star Wars fan.
The collection consists of spectacular limited edition 8-inch figurines of Darth Vader, Han Solo and Princess Leia. Complementing them are smaller 4-inch figurines of Yoda, the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett. The highlight of the collection is from a classic scene in Return of the Jedi, a diorama which captures the monstrous rancour in his pit raring to attack Luke Skywalker.
Recreating the manner and dress of beloved Star Wars characters in pewter was a formidable endeavour. The first step was to reference on-set photos, film screenshots and Lucasfilm approved reproduction art. Upon determining the features and specifications of each character, the tedious job of sculpting each figurine is a detailed process that took several weeks as even tiny fractions of a millimetre can make a figurine instantly recognisable.
Other collectibles in the Star Wars collection include a pair of Stormtrooper and Boba Fett tumblers, Darth Vader and C-3PO mugs, Millennium Falcon and snowspeeder shaped USB flash drives, a Death Star trinket box and cufflinks. This collaboration will also see Royal Selangor introducing Star Wars-themed pewter merchandise and accessories over the next three years.
The exclusive #StarWarsXRoyalSelangor goodies are being displayed in a pop-up store located at LG1, Sunway Pyramid, from the 20th to 31st August 2015, with an exclusive representation of Han Solo frozen in a carbonite block. At the launch, dedicated Star Wars fans came embodying their favourite characters. Don’t be afraid to do the same too when you visit the pop-up store!
