Review: Savouring A Taste Of Ghana At Nook, Aloft KL Sentral

More often than not, you can tell a nation has fantastic food when it is traditionally prosperous and filled with affluent heritage that never fails to captivate the hearts of travellers and tourists alike. This unrivalled charm almost always reflects on the local cuisine, and Ghana is one exemplary case in point.

Ghanaian fare really doesn’t get enough credit, especially since it’s uncommon here in our homeland. Having said that, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral’s Executive Chef Phoebe Donko-Hanson, a Ghanaian national herself, is presenting the authentic flavours and aromas of Ghana in a special feature at Nook that is reminiscent of her inherent culture.

Available throughout April 2017, the lush stew-laden buffet spread showcases signature Ghanian dishes that best depict the country’s fundamental elements of taste. Amongst the popular staples available include Black Eyed Peas with Palm Oil, the tomato-based Jollof Rice with Seafood or Chicken, Boiled Cocoyam, Gari Fotor (stir-fried tapioca) and more.

Other highlights comprise the Spicy Grilled Snapper, Roast Beef, Braised Lamb Shank, Ginger Roasted Chicken, an array of meat and vegetable curries, Kelewele, a classic plantain (a fruit from the banana family) dish, and Chichinga, a Ghanian version of kebabs that is a very well-loved street food.

While the food took our taste buds to the next level, the myriad of condiments served further accentuated the dishes. Some of them include Shitor, a chilli paste blended with sauteed prawns, Green and Red Pepper Sauce, and Seasoned Fried Chilli Oil. Diners who enjoy munching would also delight in endless snacks like peanuts, taro chips and fish chips, amongst others.

Though the spread is primarily Ghanaian, we thoroughly appreciated the variety of local and international offerings such as satay, the noodle soup live station, salads, barbecued meats and seafood, as well as pasta dishes, with flavours more familiar to our palate, alongside the delectable desserts like fruits, cakes, ais kacang, and the like.

Aloft Kuala Lumpur’s Taste of Ghana buffet spread at Nook is truly an experience not to be missed and will be available throughout the whole month of April 2017 from 6.30pm to 10.30pm daily, priced at RM120 nett per pax. For reservations or more details, contact +603-27231188 or access www.aloftkualalumpursentral.com.
