Tatsu Sushi Bar

Upscale Japanese restaurant Tatsu at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur is now offering a limited time-only buffet spread every Saturday evening until 26 November 2016. Featuring selections personally concocted and curated by Assistant Japanese Chef Tommy Kuan, diners can indulge in a gastronomic affair which encompasses over 75 mouth-watering items.

Located at Level 1 of the property, Tatsu extends a sophisticated twist to the traditional dining experience by fusing Japanese aesthetics with a contemporary yet minimal setting, adorned with dark timber woods, sea cobalt blue and white colour streams. The result is a calming and comfortable dining environment that’s quintessential for hip, urban diners.

The selection of appetisers included chuka wakame, chuka idako, a little salad bar, daikon and more, complemented with fresh salmon, tuna and butterfish sashimi, air-flown twice weekly from Japan. As for sushi, diners can choose from some hand-prepared maki such as ebi tempura mayo maki, California maki and chicken katsu maki.

One of the highlights of this buffet would be the live station teppanyaki whereby a selection of meats, seafood and vegetables can be cooked upon request on the iron griddle. Once prepared, the chefs also send the order straight to the table. Flavourful and aromatic, we reckon the teppanyaki items should not be missed.

On top of the buffet offerings, there is a list of main course choices cooked fresh to order from the à la minute menu, comprising hand rolls, yakimono items like saba shioyaki and salmon teriyaki, and agemono items such as tempura and kaki furai (fried oyster). The salmon and saba were seasoned perfectly.

To finish off the meal on a sweet note, diners can help themselves to the scrumptious dessert table filled with mixed fruit, an assortment of bite sized cakes, shiratama zenzai (Sweet red bean soup with mochi), and homemade ice cream. The cakes were a hit or miss and the red bean soup was passable, whereas the black sesame ice cream was to die for.

Quality surely is of importance at Tatsu over quantity, and although the number of options were a little underwhelming, the items we did sample were very well up to standards. Tatsu’s buffet is ideal for pleasure seekers who wish to savour and appreciate authentic Japanese food at their own pace in a quiet, more private setting.

The semi buffet at Tatsu Japanese Cuisine is available until 26 November 2016, and is priced at RM118 nett per adult and RM69 nett per child (5 to 11 years old).
