As someone who grew up toying around and learning about cars rather than playing with Barbie dolls, it is no surprise that I developed a special love and appreciation for automobiles. With my dad as the owner of a car workshop, I was always spoiled for choice because he would take me around for rides in fast and luxurious cars. Since we are on the topic of automobiles, I was given the chance to take home the new BMW X3 xDrive20d for a weekend and boy, was I the happiest person around.

I was given the opportunity to drive the new BMW X3 xDrive2od around over the course of four days and here’s a breakdown of what I thought of the car.

BMW Group Malaysia recently introduced the new locally assemble diesel powered BMW X3 that features innovative changes in its range of equipment that are now available with the high-performing BMW advanced diesel engine. The new BMX X3 xDrive20d is set to be a push for the diesel brigade because there is not going to be a petrol variant of the model coming in until next year.

How does it look – exterior?

Compared to the previous model, the new X3 is absolutely gorgeous! Featuring a new face-lift with newly designed lights and the BMW 3 Series (F30) looking headlights, the X3 is absolutely stunning. Getting rid of its “soccer mom’s” car look, the new X3 offers a more powerful figure with its newly modified circular headlights, a fiercer looking kidney grille, new front and rear bumpers as well as exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators that give the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) a rugged yet stylish look. The X3 also includes a panoramic glass roof fitted as standard feature, which further emphasises on its elegance.

What about the inside?

The interior of the car received just as much changes as the exterior did. Not cheaping out on quality and exclusivity, the interior features chrome applications and new cupholders. This new baby also offers an asymmetrical instrumental panel and centre console that is orientated towards the driver while the Navigation System Professional comes with an 8.8 inch monitor and a 12 loudspeaker hi-fi system. These basic features in the BMW X3 guarantee that all infotainment requirements are met and exceeded. The new BMW X3 also offers Internet connectivity and complete USB connectivity as well as bluetooth hands free functions. This glorious ride also comes with a sports leather steering wheel with aluminium interior trim finishers — super sleek!

Performance:

Providing sheer driving pleasure, the new BMW X3 xDrive20d is the 2-litre, four-cylinder common-rail direct injection BMW Advanced Diesel power plant, boasting 135kW and 184 horsepower SAV that is capable of projecting exemplary performance capability and best-in-class fuel efficiency. Now, I understand this can be a little too technical so in simpler terms, the new X3 offers an exceptionally smooth driving experience with the right amount of power to match its double-clutch transmission system — perfect for those who have the need for speed.

Cost:

The retail price for the new BMW X3 xDrived20 on the road, without insurance inclusive of BMW Service and Repair (BS+RI) is RM348,800.00

If you are looking a to buy a new car, you might want to consider this beast!
