It has been reported that a flyover near Selangor Science Park in Cyberjaya collapsed just this afternoon (28th February 2013). The flyover is situated just after the ELITE Highway toll in Cyberjaya, but it was unused, therefore no casualties were reported.

Several photographs have been circulating the internet, mostly through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter showing the collapsed overhead flyover. It looks pretty bad too. But from the reports made, no one has been reported to be injured. We’re still keeping a look out for more information.

UPDATED:

So what really happened to this overhead bridge? This bridge that is located near the Selangor Science Park 2 Interchange between Putrajaya Toll Plaza and the Putrajaya/Cyberjaya on Lingkaran Putrajaya collapsed at at 12.49pm yesterday, the public tipped off the incident to PLUS Malaysia who then sent a couple of highway officials to the scene.

No one was injured in the incident because the flyover was already shut down as it is.

According to the PKNS General Manager, Othman Omar, the construction of the flyover started in 2007 and it was completed in 2009. But it was in March 2012 that the flyover was handed over to PLUS and the Malaysia Highway Authority. He then said that when they handed the flyover to PLUS, it was still in a good condition, but in November, the road was deemed damaged due to the soft swamp soil and a contractor was appointed to dig up the road and apply new tar on to it.

But in early December of 2012, the authorities decided to close the flyover when the MHA discovered that there was some movement to one of the pillars holding up the flyover. As of now, PKNS is still trying to identify the exact cause of the incident. But it is said that the clean-up work on the site will be about three weeks and full restoration of the collapsed flyover may take up to eight months.
