Want to treat yourself, but don’t have the time or worried that it might hurt your budget? As beauty treatments from spas cost a lot of money, stay in and explore your kitchen for a couple of ingredients and food products that can give you a natural and environmentally-sustainable glow! Here’s a few treatments that we swear by!

Oatmeal Facial Scrub
We all know that oatmeal is healthy for our internal body, but did you know it works wonders on your skin too? Oatmeal contains anti-inflammatory properties and saponins, a cleansing agent, and can therefore used as a mild cleanser for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Oatmeal works best as a facial scrub as it’s gentle and moisturizing, and is known to treat acne, skin rashes and even aging skin! (Source)

To make your own oatmeal facial scrub, combine three tablespoons of oatmeal in a bowl with one tablespoon of honey and yogurt, each. Mix them up with a spoon and pour warm water in the bowl to create a paste. If it’s sticky enough, spread it on your face and rub in circular motions gently for about 30 seconds. You can also choose to leave it for 10 minutes. The honey will help brighten your face while the yogurt will leave your skin soft and supple.

Hair Like Honey
Did you know that honey works as a natural hair lightener? Apart from being a great natural moisturizer for the hair, it is also a subtle way to lighten your hair. You will not end up with dramatic results as if you’ve just stepped out of the salon, but you will have hair that looks naturally lighter. Honey is capable of lightening the hair due to the content of natural hydrogen peroxide in honey. Hydrogen peroxide is found in the cream developers in your hair dye, which makes sense why honey would have that effect on hair! (Source)

To lighten your hair, combine 4 parts of honey with 1 part distilled water. The exact amount should depend on the length and thickness of your hair. Add natural spices like ground cardamom, cinnamon, or lemon juice to boost the color. Mix the mixture well, and then apply to your hair and scalp. Let it sit for an hour under a shower cap. Applying heat is optional.

You can also mix add a few tablespoons of honey in your shampoo and conditioner to moisturize your hair.

Treatment for Dry/Chapped Lips
This technique may be bizzare, but it works! Before going to sleep, pour a few drop of mustard oil on your belly button and massage it slightly. In the morning, you will wake up to soft and supple lips. You can also use other essential oils like olive oil, castor oil, and Vitamin E oil. (Source)

This is an old Ayurvedic trick. It seems that the belly button serves more purpose to our bodies than you might know. It is also said that a few drops of tea tree oil can help keep the bacterial-environment in your vagina balanced too. This can keep you safe from any vaginal infections caused by bacteria like yeast infections.

Cure For Stinky Feet

It is common for us to encounter stinky feet, but it can absolutely embarrassing, especially when you’re surrounded by friends or a date. Soaking your feet in warm tea every night is the most cost-effective solution to your problem. Tea contains tannic acid that helps prevent your feet from sweating and causing odor.

Simply brew two bags of black tea in a basin with warm water, then soak your feet for about 10 minutes. If you use loose tea leaves, scrub the leaves on your skin to exfoliate and allow the natural juices of the tea to absorb into your skin.

Healthy Soft Hair
If you feel like you’re having a bad hair day, the materials to soft hair is available in your kitchen. Egg whites, yogurt and mayonnaise are great sources of protein that both nourish and condition the hair! You can use each of these ingredients on their own, or combine them all together to create a very nourishing and inexpensive hair masque! If you’re worried about the scent of these ingredients, simply mix a few drops of your favorite essential oils like rose, lemon or lavender.
