To mark the 80th death anniversary of the famous Akita dog, the University of Tokyo’s agricultural department has erected a bronze statue of Hachiko and his master reunited at last.

Hachiko waited every day for its master to return home for nine years in front of Tokyo’s Shibuya station. After its death, a statue of Hachiko has been put up at the Shibuya station, showing the dog waiting patiently.

His master, Hidesaburo Ueno was a professor at the university for over 20 years and he passed away from a cerebral haemorrhage during one of his lectures in 1925.

If you’re visiting Tokyo any time soon, don’t forget to visit both the old and new Hachiko statue landmarks.
