Local actress Fathia Latiff who’s best known for her role in Diandra, has come under fire after making an ignorant comment about Malaysia becoming a cashless society by 2050.
The 30-year-old star responded to a news article from Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin by saying, “Are we going back to stone age and doing barter trade? You give me a television and I give you a bicycle? Scaryyy!”

Netizens took no time to slam Fathia, calling her “brainless” and felt that she “got to be kidding”. Some even remarked whether this was her way “to gain cheap publicity” and that she should “at least read and understand” the statement.
Meanwhile, actor and screenwriter Redza Minhat advised Fathia not to damage her credibility by making illogical statements. He added that it’s best not to say anything if one lacked knowledge on a subject. The actress responded by claiming that he actually felt ‘intimidated’ by her.
Omg.. is she really that clueless? Fathia subsequently tweeted that the article’s headline was not clear, and cashless has a wide meaning. She later added that she was being ironic, “I am not stupid. I understand the headline. I had tweeted in a sarcastic tone.”
Ironic indeed.
For the record, cashless is an actual term that refers to the absence of cash notes in business transactions. It does NOT mean we’re going to use the barter system. Damn, sis.
