The story jumped straight into action (and laughs) when the lovelorn and pretty much financially dry Annie (played by Kristen Wiig) is put through her first every duty as maid of honour. Privileged to be given the task to prepare her best friend, Lillian (played by Maya Rudolph) for her lavish big day, Annie is, at the same time, looking for love herself.
Although at first, she didn’t appear to be that much of a damsel in distress, everything soon unfolded as Annie is made to through the most bizarre pre-wedding rituals (gown fitting, bachelorette trip, wedding shower, etc.) while juggling the mess that is her haphazard life. And we all know it – as maid of honour, Annie is only given that one chance to get it right, and to display her love for her best friend.
Of course, all is fine. Until a third party steps in, in the form of Helen (played by Rose Byrne). It’s bad enough that girl-next-door Annie doesn’t see eye to eye with the immaculately gorgeous Helen, it’s even worse that they both obviously want the same thing. Oh and by the way, we also couldn’t help but to silently take a poll to see who’s the better singer between the two (Annie or Helen). With someone else in the picture vying to make Lillian’s wedding miles more extravagant than Annie’s seemingly mediocre ideas, the plot thickens:
Will Annie succeed in pulling herself together and acing her crucial role in Lillian’s wedding planning completely unscathed? Will there be cat fights between the three (Annie, her best friend Helen, and Lillian) right till the very end? Will Lillian choose one over the other? And last but not least, will the ordeal finally put Annie’s life back on track?
