When the first “Paranormal Activity” was released four years ago, it was praised by critics for successfully creeping out the audience without having to have ghosts or spirits jump out at people (read: Asian horror films). In fact, the movie was done on a low budget and therefore, had the similar light touch that “The Blair Witch Project” possessed.
This year, the supernatural film series returns with its third installment of horrors. “Paranormal Activity 3” is set in a time 18 years before the events of its previous movies (“Paranormal Activity” and “Paranormal Activity 2”).
The gist of the movie is simply wrapped up in one sentence, “Discover the secret behind the activity” and it takes place in 1988 when Katie and Kristi are little girls.
Yes, you could say that it’s a lot like storytelling backwards. And for the first time, we are introduced to the reason behind the monstrous demon haunting that torments their family (the one that you’ve probably seen in “Paranormal Activity” and “Paranormal Activity 2”).
Same concept; cameras are installed throughout the house to attempt to capture the paranormal activities around the house. And to be honest, we’re fearing this more than we are excited about it but, if it’s something that tickles your fancy (read: if you like being scared half to death) then you’re in for a surprise!
