This is a HUGE step forward for the LGBTQ community!
Multiple award-winning sitcom Modern Family has just broken new ground by casting TV’s first openly transgender child actor, Jackson Millarker, aged 8.
Millarker, who transitioned at 6 years old, have had his parents support his decision and will guest star as a transgender boy named Tom on the TV series.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, also known as Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family and who is openly gay, tweeted a link to an article announcing the historic casting news a couple days back.
Although roles have been given to transgender people in many recent films and television shows, they self-identify with the gender that corresponds to their biological sex.
Amongst those shows and films include Orange Is The New Black, starring transgender actors Laverne Cox and Jen Richards, as well as The Danish Girl, starring Jared Leto and Eddie Redmayne as trans women.
