It was a night of glitz and glamour, as 89 women compete for the The decision has been made and Miss USA has been crowned as Miss Universe for 2012!
The 20-year-old beauty queen from Rhode Island, Olivia Culpo was crowned the new Miss Universe and beat out 88 other women through out the entire competition at the Planet Hollywood casino in Las Vegas. Culpo accepted her crown looking like a princess, wearing a sophisticated and elegant fuchsia ball gown.
The top five contestants were, Venezuela, Philippines, Australia, USA, Brazil and of course, Miss USA.
Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon came in second while Miss Venezuela Irene Sofia Esser Quintero took the third place.
In the final stages of the competition, the top 5 contestants had to answer several questions and Olivia was asked about her regrets and she said she wish she didn’t pick on her siblings.
All of the 89 contestants from all parts of the world spent the past two weeks in Las Vegas where they trained, practice and a little fun too. The past week, they went through a various rehearsals and participated in the preliminary rounds like the National Costume Contest, Swimsuit Contest, and Evening Gown Contest.
Miss China Universe 2012 Diana Xu Jidan, was named the winner of the National Costume Contest. Her print of her spectacular costume represented the art on Chinese porcelain. She certainly looked like a queen there!
Although our pride and joy, Miss Malaysia Kimberly Leggett did not make it through the finals, she’s still a big winner in our hearts. We know she’ll continue to share her efforts and experience on her journey towards being Miss Universe 2012! And we feel the same way too about all the 89 contestants from all over the world!
