American racists are being racists (and ignorant) about Nina Davuluri being the first woman of Indian descent to win the Miss America title.
With diversity part of her cause, Nina even celebrated her heritage by performing an Indian classical-Bollywood fusion dance that captivated the judges and the audience.
However, some of the audience thought it to be racist because Nina isn’t white, even going as far as to mistaking her for an Arab, and relating her to the “gas prices” and “9-11”. Here’s are some examples:-
In her first new conference, Nina has managed to brush off the racist remarks, saying:-
“I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity”.
“I’m thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America.”
She also says that she’ll have to rise above the negativity, and will always view herself first and and foremost an American. [Source]
