Dropping the money on a brand new foundation is easy. What’s troublesome is finding that perfect shade that isn’t too cool-toned or warm-toned for your awkward skin tone that seems impossible to match.
Though many brands have made it a point to become diversely inclusive with the multitude of shades, looking for that one spot-on colour still seems like a chore and is a guessing game for many.
There are custom foundation makers around like the one from Lancôme, but that contraption hasn’t extended beyond the States. Fear not though, there’s a digital alternative now!
Founded by two technology experts, MATCHCo is a skintone matchmaker app on the iPhone that scans, analyses then custom blends a foundation that is meant for your very own skin colour.

How it works is that the app prompts the camera function on the phone to act like a scanner for the skin. You’ll be asked to scan the right and left cheek, forehead, and inner and outer wrists.
Then, place an order on the app and MATCHCo will generate a custom oil-free foundation blend for you that is infused with green tea extract, Vitamin E, white lily flower essence and chamomile for anti-ageing benefits.
The foundation offers a medium coverage, and although there is no international shipping available at the moment, you could always use parcel forwarding services to get your hands on one. It will set you back US$49.
According to Fortune, MATCHCo has also just been acquired by Shiseido, so the technology may become more accessible to us here quicker than you think.
