In a nail-biting finale, Melbourne-based Malaysian Diana Chan was crowed MasterChef Australia, becoming the second Malaysian to win MasterChef Australia after Adam Liaw who won in Season 2.
She beat her competitor Ben Ungermann by a close 1.0112 percent and walked away with a trophy, aside from A$250,000 and a column in foodie mag Delicious.
Amongst the Malaysian inspired dishes she wowed the judges with include Red Emperor Fish on Spicy Fragrant Sambal, which she based on a dish her own mom used to prepare. Both her parents are also very passionate cooks.
The 29-year-old accountant was first raised in Johor Baru before she moved to Kuala Lumpur in her late teens. She then moved to Australia when she was 19.
On her win, she mentions that she hopes to open a restaurant to showcase Malaysian flavours.
