The Malaysian embassy in Manila, Philippines has temporarily suspended its operations from today due to demonstrations denouncing the Lahad Datu crisis.

According to sources, at least 100 Catholic and Muslim protesters gathered in front of the embassy, calling for an end to the violence, with some also voicing support for Sulu Sultan, Jamalul Kiram III.

The Filipino group claimed to be descendants of the southern Philippines’ sultanate of Sulu, in a move to “take back” what they see as their territory. Approximately over 50 police members were ordered to take charge of the situation.

Demonstrators also burned images of Philippine President Benigno Aquino III and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak shaking hands. The protestors are unhappy with the way the Philippine government are dealing with this problem. The protest lasted over an hour with no accidents reported.
