The highly, highly anticipated Jeffree Star Cosmetics and Manny MUA collaboration – a set which includes a highlighter and two liquid lipsticks – is supposed to drop a few days from now, and unfortunately, the YouTube stars have just been hit with a lawsuit that threatens to stop the release.
The copyright and trademark infringement suit claims that the packaging on Jeffree Star Cosmetics and Manny MUA’s collaboration is a direct rip-off of Black Moon Cosmetics. The design in question involves a holographic crescent moon on a black background.
The similar moon design, however, has long become Manny MUA’s trademark, even appearing on his Makeup Geek collection and intro clip on YouTube. Black Moon Cosmetics has included screenshots of Instagram teasers and get this, screenshots of a direct message between Manny MUA and the makeup brand account discussing Black Moon’s packaging.
Black Moon Cosmetics is now seeking damages, a preliminary and permanent injunction. We’ll keep you guys updated!
