It’s about damn time!
Emblematic Hong Kong actor and martial arts superstar Jackie Chan finally received an honorary Oscar, after 56 years in the industry and making over 200 films.
The 62-year-old star also alluded breaking bones while performing insane stunts prior to receiving this gold statuette, while holding it at a gala dinner whereby he was awarded.
He added that he is “proud to be Chinese” and that his fans were the reason “I continue to make movies, jumping through windows, kicking and punching, breaking my bones.”
He was introduced by Rush Hour co-star Chris Tucker, alongside Michelle Yeoh and Tom Hanks, who mentioned that action comedy films and martial arts were two genres always overlooked during awards season, and that it was gratifying to acknowledge “Jackie ‘Chantastic’ Chan.”
Chan was honoured during the annual ceremony in company with British film editor Anne V. Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster, and documentarian Frederick Wiseman.
