Getting your nails done should cost you a fair bit of money each month, and whether you’re doing it at home or at the nail salon, it goes through the same process and they all chip and fade out anyways. So, save yourself the time, purchase your own tools and do your own manicures at home. And while you may not achieve the precision like the pros do, practice makes perfect.

So here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you achieve gorgeous manicured nails at home!

What you need:

Nail Clipper
Emery Board
Cuticle Pusher
Base Coat
Top Coat Nail Polish
Nail Polish Remover
A bowl filled warm water

Step 1: Start with a clean, polish-free nails and soak them in the bowl of water for five minutes. This will soften the nails, which will make clipping and styling easier. Dry your hands with a clean towel, then trim and file your nails according to your preferred length and shape.

Step 2: Once your nails are trimmed, apply a cuticle oil or any moisturizing oil on your cuticles so you don’t end up with dry cuticles. Push back the cuticles gently.

Step 3: Wipe your hands clean, and apply a thin layer of the base coat on your nails. It’ll protect your nails from getting stained, and it also smoothens the application of colored polish. Let it dry for a minute or two.

Step 4: Apply the nail polish color evenly on your nails. Place the brush two millimeters from the cuticle, push it backwards, and then drag it back to the edge of the nails. This helps avoid getting stains on your cuticles, while evenly covering the entire nail. The best trick to even coverage is to start at the center of the nail, and then paint the sides with a slight curve.

Step 5: Wait a few minutes for the color to dry and apply the top coat. You will need somewhere between 20 to 45 minutes for the nail polish to completely dry. So, just sit back and watch a movie!
