To recap, this is Barbra Streisand when she was younger. You may or may not find her familiar but your parents definitely know her name.
So, if you’ve been wondering what Barbra Streisand has been up to lately, well, she’s living her best Black Mirror life. The legendary singer and actor recently revealed that her two dogs, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, are clones of her late dog, Samatha, who died last year. Uh, so there’s that.
“They have different personalities,” the icon said. “I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have Samantha’s brown eyes and seriousness.”
You see, last year Barbra Streisand’s beloved dog fell ill, and because she has more money to spend than most of us make in a year, the star had cells taken from her 14-year-old Coton du Tulear dog’s mouth and stomach before she died.
She also bought a third dog named Miss Fanny, which is the cousin of her original dog brought by a breeder, raising the question of why one would pay more than $100,000 to clone a dog when there are other dogs whose existence does not defy God and nature that look just like them. After the clones arrived, Streisand dressed the dogs in red and lavender to tell them apart, which is how they got their names — Miss Scarlett and Miss Violet. All three dogs appear frequently in Streisand’s Instagram feed.
Class war considerations aside, probably the most annoying thing about this story is that we’re forced to side with PETA on this one, as the animal rights organisation released a statement earlier today saying that, “Cloning an animal only reproduces their physical characteristics, not their personality, so you might as well just adopt a dog who looks like your dearly departed doggo friend.”
And we really hate having to agree with PETA on things.
