We still can’t get over how great the GDA was and we may be suffering from withdrawal symptoms or post-concert depression right now. The Samsung Galaxy 27th Golden Disk Awards have treated us well with more than 20 K-pop artists performing at Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur on 15 and 16th of January. The two-day event has definitely worn us out but at the same time, it brought us so much joy and excitement we’ve never experienced before. And since the GDA has left us such a great memories, here we are bringing you the highlights as well as some of the let down from GDA.

The Hightlights:

Nicole from KARA and Yonghwa from CNBlue kicked off the first night of GDA with Nicole’s dance cover of Ne-yo’s ‘Sexy Love’ and Yonghwa’s cover of Maroon 5’s ‘Payphone’. They are also the MC of the first night of GDA and have proven their abilities in hosting the award show.

EXO

EXO, BTOB, and B1A4 brought back the 90s K-pop by performing the legendary K-pop songs from H.O.T and Sechskies.

Known for their synchronized choreography, Infinite brought us an enjoyable dance performances as well when singing ‘Paradise’ and ‘The Chaser’. The members also took off their outer wear in the middle of the show and got all the fans screaming as they showed off their well-toned body.

The crowd went crazy when it was Super Junior’s turn to perform their songs ‘Mr Simple’ and ‘Sexy, Free & Single’! Ryeowook also danced to ‘Gangnam Style’ during the performance with the other members cheering on him. Fans shouted ‘OPPA!’ when Donghae called for fanchants with ‘I say Donghae! You say Oppa! I say Suju, you say Oppa!’

Towards the end of the show, all stars gathered in front of the stage and bid farewell to the fans. Fans also were able to witness the friendship between the idol groups as the stars were seen talking and having fun with each other. The interaction between the idols and the fans also make it a memorable night for the fans.

As for Day 2, more highlights seems to be happening on the last day of the show and the crowd seems to grow bigger than the previous day too. The show starts off with Hongki and Dasom’s cover of ‘Way Back Into Love’ that swoon the fans away with the mellow song.

The two solo singers, Ailee and Lee Hi blown the fans away with their amazing vocals. Fans were lucky to see their performances live as their vocals has gives everyone goosebumps! Both of them also did a song cover as Ailee sang Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ and Lee Hi sang Pixie Lott’s ‘Mama Do’.

The great performances doesn’t just end here as the main vocalist from SISTAR, Hyorin sang the romantic ‘Endless Love’ with ballad singer, K.Will. Everyone was immersed into their singing and also gave us goosebumps when the song hit the high notes.

Epik High also brought the fans back in the olden days as they performed ‘Fly’ from their old album before joining the YG company.Unexpectedly, they also performed ‘Get Out of Way’ from their latest album and this song was one of the songs which has that ‘old Epik High style’.

T-ara and miss A also brought back the 90s K-pop with the legendary K-pop songs such as S.E.S and Fin.K.L. Besides that, B.A.P & Secret, who are under the entertainment company, also did a special stage collaboration and they had fun performed on stage too!

The surprise of the night was when G-Dragon performed ‘Heartbreaker’ from his first solo debut album. It has been a long time since he last performed the song and V.I.P (Big Bang’s fans) were all happy that he performed this song for the first time in Malaysia!

G-Dragon and Tablo from Epik High also turned the GDA to a special hip hop stage with the song ‘Light It Up’ that makes the crowd goes crazy over their fast rap with crazy flow!

The show wrapped up with a blast after the Minister of Tourism Malaysia, Dato Seri Ng Yen Yen presenting the Song of The Year. The Song of The Year was awarded to PSY but since he couldn’t make it to GDA, the YG Family represented PSY to receive the award and PSY had recorded a winning speech video for his award as well. After that, the K-pop artists of the night danced to the songs including the infamous ‘horse-ride moves’ and bid the fans farewell before leaving the stage.

The Disappointments:

1. Towards the end of performing ‘Pandora’, KARA’s performance faced somes technical problem as the light suddenly went off. Yonghwa from CNBlue (also the emcee of the day) had to entertained the crowd by asking the fans to do human wave while the girls were preparing to re-perform the song. However, the girls did well and even better than before for their second performance!

2. Infinite did not walk the red carpet area which is a total disappointment but they did went for the media interview session.

3. Zinger from SECRET was absent due to her injuries from a car accident. Hence, only 3 members of SECRET are performing on Day 2.

4. G-Dragon is the only Big Bang’s member who attended the the 27th Golden Disk Awards.

So, were you at the 27th Samsung Galaxy Golden Disk Awards as well? Share your favourite moment with us in the comment box!
