Here’s How You Can Maintain Your Eyelash Extensions So They Last Longer

Who would have thought that tiny strands of hair embedded onto the eyelids can make a world of a difference? Though it is purely aesthetic, eyelash extensions instantly brighten and enlarge the eyes, helping you look more awake and take less time to get ready in the mornings!

Many girls struggle with their natural eyelashes – be it in the fullness or length. Trust us when we say we’ve resorted to a slew of methods to perk up those flutters, including the use of mascara and falsies, but nothing compares to the results of getting eyelash extensions.

A temporary but awesome fix to our woes, eyelash extensions are effortless, so much so that some females do not feel the need to wear makeup when they have them on. While it does sound dreamy, it’s hard to maintain. The fear of our real lashes dropping off is often a concern, but with these tips, you can put those worries to rest!

Untangle the mangle

The longer and thicker the lashes, the more they tend to point towards random directions and look out of place. Try not to use your fingers to tug on them into place as this can damage both the extensions and your real lashes. Instead, use a spoolie and brush them out from top of your lashes – the opposite of how you apply mascara.

Stay fresh without the oil

As oil can weaken the eyelash extension adhesive, the rule of thumb is to stay away from oil-based makeup removers. If possible, you should also ditch liquid-based makeup to prolong the life of your lashes. Water-based makeup removers like the Estelle & Thild BioCleanse Micellar Cleansing Water could be ideal. Gently dab around the eye area and avoid rubbing too harshly.

Lock it in with extra protection

Thought not a conventional product, you can try applying a coating sealant onto your lashes to protect them. It creates a barrier over the lashes to prevent environmental irritants like sweat, dirt and dust from weakening the glue. It may sound like an extra step but those lashes don’t come cheap, so you might as well enjoy them for as long as possible. Most beauty parlours offering eyelash extension services will have the sealant for sale.

Keep your hands to yourself

These lashes are delicate, gentle beings and rubbing your eyes is definitely an aggressive enough force that may cause them to drop off quicker. In short, you should keep your hands off them the best you can as touching your lashes (even if they’re fun to play with) will also weaken the glue.

Strictly no pulling

It’s tempting to pluck your lashes off when a lot of them start falling. We know that sparse-looking lashes is not the look anybody’s going for but doing this will seriously harm your natural lashes and possibly, the growth of new hairs too. Just let them drop off on their own or go back to the salon to get them removed properly.

Don’t sleep on your front

It’s best to avoid any contact in any form with your lashes, especially during the first 24 hours as the glue usually takes some time to stabilise and sit in. Sleep on your back to prevent causing friction and putting pressure on the lashes. Just be careful is all we’re saying. Premature falling, be gone!
