The most intense and nail-biting moment from Squid Game was the Dalgona Candy scene. Thought it looks like a simple thing to do, piercing out the shape of the candy you’re given is nerve-wracking. We know it’s a super fun game to play (unlike Squid Game, which was gory!) with your family and friends. Be it at a party, get-together or hangout session, this game makes for a perfect activity to spark laughter and promote bonding.

Dalgona Candy is made of sugar and baking soda and is sold on Korean streets, usually by the elderly.  Surprisingly, they are very easy to make and take a short time to prepare. If you want to make your very own version of Dalgona Candy with challenging patterns to test the accuracy and patience of your guests, it’s time to get cookin’!

Check out the super-duper simple recipe below and you have your very own version of the popular Squid Game candy!

What you’ll need:

  • A small pot or frying pan
  • A wooden chopstick
  • Cookie cutters
  • A jar lid (or any other utensil with a flat round metal surface that can be used as a presser)
  • Baking paper (optional)

Ingredients (to make 4 to 5 servings):

  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 tbsp of water
  • 1/3 tsp of baking soda

How to do it:

  1. You’ll first need to coat the cookie cutters and the presser with baking soda. To prevent the melted sugar from sticking on a non-stick surface, sprinkle some baking soda over the surface or over a sheet of baking paper.
  2. Then, add 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tbsp of water into the pot or frying pan, and place it on the stove on the lowest heat. Be sure to stir the mixture in a quick circular motion with the wooden chopstick for 2 minutes until the sugar melts and turns into a soft golden color.
  3. Once that’s done, remove the pot or frying pan from the heat and add 1/3 tsp of baking soda to the mixture. Stir quickly until the ingredients are well-combined.
  4. Pour the paste onto the non-stick surface, forming small circles. You’ll need to be quick with this to prevent the mixture from hardening.
  5. Press down on each of the circles with your jar lid or presser to thin them out. Coat the lid with more baking soda if necessary.
  6. Decorate your Dalgona Candy by pressing the cookie cutters gently on each circle. Be sure to not press them fully to make a cut. You just want to go halfway through to get the shape.
  7. Let the candy cool down, and let the games begin!
