It’s pretty clear now that the entertainment industry isn’t all about a glamorous life – the tough times can be more than miserable, driving the celebrities off track. Recently, the female vocalist of Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, opened up about her lowest point in life and how she overcame her addiction to crystal meth before her Black Eyed Peas days.
The confession came three months after the singer announced she will be separating from her husband of eight years, Josh Duhamel, and the pop star shockingly revealed that, “In my lowest point, I was suffering from chemically induced psychosis and dementia. I was hallucinating on a daily basis.”
According to the 42-year-old singer-songwriter, her obsession towards the Methamphetamine drug, commonly known as ice, got her imagining the FBI would be tracking her down, hence it drove her into seeking shelter in a church, “They tried to kick me out, because I was moving down the aisles in this crazy way,” she recalled.
But that was also when she decided that this all should come to an end, saying, “If I walk outside, and the SWAT team’s out there, I was right all along. But if they’re not out there, then it’s the drugs making me see things and I’m going to end up in an institution. And if it really is the drugs, I don’t want to live my life like this any more, anyway.”
“Obviously there was no SWAT team, it was just me in a parking lot. It was a freeing moment,” remembering the incident, Fergie told news outlets that “It took a year after getting off that drug for the chemicals in my brain to settle so that I stopped seeing things. I’d just be sitting there, seeing a random bee or bunny.”
Now a mum of a 4-year-old, Fergie is glad that she had overcome her horrifying past and is set to face struggles in life with a positive mindset and faith. Although heartbroken that her marriage didn’t last forever as planned, the singer quickly picked herself up and even released her solo album – Double Dutchess.
Admitting that there was a lot going on, Fergie and Josh have kept a close friendship, putting the focus on their son Axl Jack, mentioning, “We wanted to find our footing with our separation before we announced it publicly: to make sure we really got it together for our kid.”
When asked about her future plans, Fergie mentioned that she’d love to work on great music with her old bandmates, stating, “I’ve never left The Black Eyed Peas. They’re like my work family.
