Marié Christina Digby rose to fame with her acoustic over Rihanna’s “Umbrella” garnered about 19,910,934 views on YouTube in 2007. The song was featured across radio stations, on one of the season opening episodes of the MTV show “The Hills”, and it even went live during her performance on the late night talk show, “Last Call”, with Carson Daly.
Hence the famous claim that she shot to stardom via YouTube alone. In September 2008 (about a year after her “Umbrella” cover video was uploaded) , Marié Digby hit 100,000 YouTube subscribers. We say that it is only with such great talent that she commands such a huge following. To date, she has 297,069 subscribers.
Four years later, Marié Digby has released three studio albums (including one Japanese cover album) and a 17-episode web mini-series called, “Breathing Underwater”.
The 28-year-old half Japanese, half American beautiful singer-songwriter started writing songs during high school is Los Angeles, California. She’s your everyday girl, quirky and fun – so quirky that she once recorded a video of hers in the bathroom because apparently, the bathroom has the best acoustics in her house.
In 2004, she won the Pantene Pro-Voice competition which helped her bag the opportunity to work with a professional producer on an album. Often performing with a “Gibson Hummingbird” acoustic guitar, she then travelled around the world on tour to promote her music.
If you tried hard enough, you’d remember that she once set foot on Malaysian soil when she came to perform for an exclusive showcase at One Utama’s New Wing in 2008! Part of her travels found her in Manila, Philippines. And in June 2011, Marié Digby returned to Manila to record an album. At that time, she already had plans to promote the album in the country from August to September 2011.
Here’s a sneak peek of the first single off the album:
The album titled, “Your Love” will be released on the 16th of September, 2011 by Star Records and MCA Music.
