Emma Watson didn’t intend to show a lot of skin on the red carpet, but she suffered yet another wardrobe malfunction. The 23-year-old actress accidentally flashed her SPANX, which are slimming intimates, while posing at the Noah premiere in London.
Her slip-up aside, she looked elegant as ever wearing a Ralph Lauren Collection column halter gown, which had a pleated silk-georgette panel at the hip.
This isn’t the first time Watson has had ‘whoopsie’ moments.
In 2012 at the Perks of Being a Wallflower premiere, Watson unknowingly revealed her left nipple sticker. In 2011, her left boob fell out of her low-cut mini-dress at a Finch & Partners’ pre-BAFTA party and when she showed up for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 premiere in 2010, her backless dress exposed her not-so-well-placed fashion tape.
Watson began working with a stylist years ago to avoid such scenarios. “I have to at this point,” the British star told Glamour magazine in 2012.
“When I was younger, I used to do it all myself, but I’ve had to get help because it’s gotten to a stage where I can’t show up in my Converses or whatever I bought from High Street. And just practically, these gowns are ridiculous. You’re being photographed from every angle, so not only do you have to consider how the thing looks, but whether you’re going to be able to sit in it and whether people are going to be able to see up your skirt.”
The Lancôme spokesmodel also said she gets red carpet advice from her mother and friends. “I love showing them images and asking, ‘What do you think of this dress?’ I call on my boyfriends for advice all the time. I mean friends who are boys, and my girlfriends.”
After 13 years in the business, does Watson still worry about doing it wrong on the red carpet?
“As a younger woman, that pressure got me down, but I’ve made my peace with it,” said Watson, who also stars in The Bling Ring. “With airbrushing and digital manipulation, fashion can project an unobtainable image that’s dangerously unhealthy. I’m excited about the ageing process. I’m more interested in women who aren’t perfect. They’re more compelling.”
