Don’t we all love lip-and-cheek stains? They give your lips and cheeks a lovely blush and your lips a fresh and sweet tone.

And since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re going to show you how you can create your own pink lip tint at home that’ll help moisturize your lips!

Making your own lip tint is absolutely easy and cost-effective. All you need is petroleum-jelly, some food colouring (a natural one is always a better option) and a clean, empty container. We chose to use a combination powdered and liquid food colouring to create depth in colour and to allow it to the spread on the lips easily.

If you’re not keen on trying synthetic colouring, you can try these other options:-

  • Ground carmine
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Beets

Instead of petroleum-jelly, you can also use beeswax as your base. We opted to use Lucas Papaw Ointment since it had antibacterial properties and it’s also a tad sweet to the taste.

All you need to do is combine hazelnut-sized dollop of the petroleum-jelly with some colour. Powder-based food colouring is easier to control in terms of hue, so we used a tablespoon of pink colouring, mixed and then incorporated a drop of red food colouring so it looked less pale. Now, it has a more natural, rosy hue:

If you want something more light-weight and bolder in colour, stick to a simple combination of liquid red food colouring and petroleum-jelly. Since it’s lighter, you can apply it on your cheeks to give it a nice healthy flush. Here’s what it looks like:

If you find it hard to mix the colouring into the petroleum-jelly, simply place the ingredients on a spoon, and put it over a lit candle and combine the mixture with a chopstick. Pour it in your container and let it cool.

Feel free to combine essential oils like peppermint oil to give your lips a cooling effect.

Now that you know how to make your own lip tint, there’s no need to worry when you’ve run out of lipstick or lipbalm!
