Discovery Channel will be launching a compelling new documentary titled AFTERSHOCK: DISASTER IN NEPAL, which will go over the details of the two recent earthquakes which devastated Nepal. The 60 minute special will feature close up accounts of those who survived the disaster, riveting news reports of when the quake first hit, as well as the countless rescue efforts being done up until now. Interviews with experts will be shown to help share the scientific explanations behind the powerful seismic event, and even the current efforts in developing technology that could help scientists predict and better manage when similar natural disasters occur.
When the first 7.8 magnitude quake hit on April 25th, it had the same effect of 20 thermonuclear weapons on the affected regions, flattening Kathmandu’s historical landmarks, family homes, and the Mount Everest base camp. An additional quake had hit on May 12,with a magnitude of 7.3. A shocking number of 8,000 had their lives taken by the disaster, including 19 mountain climbers who were scaling Mount Everest at the time. The event has garnered attention of Malaysian actress, Michelle Yeoh, who was in Nepal at the time of the earthquake, and has been an avid part of spreading awareness through programme links for Discovery channel and participating in public service announcements. She is promoting the humanitarian efforts of Live to Love, an organization that has been promoting rescue efforts and disaster relief for Nepal.
