Every year, to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, L’Occitane pays tribute to the women of Burkina Faso.
It was in that country, in the early 1980s, that Olivier Baussan first discovered shea butter. Since then, the L’Occitane Foundation has chosen to focus its actions on the economic emancipation by supporting, mainly, literacy, training and microcredit programmes for women in that nation.
This year, L’Occitane has come up with the Ultra Soft Balm to support women’s entrepreneurship in Burkina Faso. Retailing for RM15 (20g), this is an apricot-scented, multi-purpose moisturiser made with 96% shea butter. Ultra-nourishing and protective, the balm can be used on the hair, lips and body. 100% of the profits from the sale of this balm will be donated to the cause.
To date, almost 900 women have learned to read and write in the 31 literacy centres opened by the L’Occitane Foundation, while over 6,000 women have benefited from microcredits.
