The earthquake that hit the northern tip of Sumatra at 7.41am, affected areas in Malaysia like Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak. Tremors were felt in these areas. Tremors were also felt in Phuket, Thailand, but it was no cause for alarm.
No tsunami alert has been issues for Phuket or any other provinces along the Andaman Coast.
