Bali will forever remain a hotspot tourist destination that welcomes throngs and throngs of foreigners per year, and for 2017, it’s even been named TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards’ top travel destination, beating out Paris and London.

That said, Australia’s BBC has discovered something shocking – that unsuspecting tourists in Bali have been served dog meat for the longest time, being told it is “chicken satay”.

If the canine aren’t bludgeoned or hung from trees, they are reportedly poisoned with cyanide, which remains in the dog meat that is then consumed by humans.

The investigator cum activist says that the sign ‘RW’ on food stalls and vendors signifies the use of dog meat, and on documenting the brutal slaughtering of the dogs, he adds, “As an animal cruelty investigator, I have trained myself to cope with cruelty, but nothing prepared me for the brutal catching of dogs in the village.”

Dog meat is legal in the country and many locals believe that it is beneficial for their health. Now that you’ve been warned, you might want to reconsider chowing down that ultra-tempting satay by the streets.
